English Language Learners


Check out the following links for information/advice about ELL students and to best help them!

  • National Council of Teachers of English
    • This website includes basic information and research of ELL students.  It also provides very helpful information on books, grants, etc.  There are also ELL lesson plans available!
  • ASCD
    • This website offers tons of articles, books, and multimedia presentations about ELL learners.  There are also professional development opportunities listed.  Teachers can also review the common core standards as they relate to ELL students.
  • Utah Education Network
    • This site is packed with resources for ELL education.  There are lesson plans, teaching tips, question and answer sections, and so much more!  This site is particularly helpful for teachers working in the state of Utah.  There are even resources about ELL students for the general public - great for understanding our community!
  • Lanternfish
    • This site is a great resource for flash cards, word searches, songs, worksheets, etc.  Fun and creative ways to reach out to ELL students!  There are also links for ESL for adults, ESL jobs, and business ESL.
  • National Writing Project
    • This site will be helpful for someone like myself who will be teaching language arts in middle or high schools.  There are tips and information on teaching writing, reading, etc. to ELL and migrant students.
  • PCI Education
    • This site sells products, lesson plans, books, guides, etc. to help teachers with ELL students.  The products cover a broad range of educational topics for both elementary and secondary classroom settings.  Although these products have to be purchased, some of them may be worth the money to have in your personal or classroom library.
  • Colorin' Colorado
    • This site is designed for new/first year teachers with ELL students.  It has advice for ELL classroom instruction, video clips, recommended resources, and advice for new teachers.
